Best Citra 3DS games on 2018

Citra is a Nintendo 3DS emulator and it’s shown an incredible amount of progress over the last year, to the point that is worth checking every once in a while if previously non working titles are now playable. Our test specs were nothing spectacular so this list should give you a good reference as you won’t need a really high-end PC to play them.

Our test machine has:

  • Intel Core i5 6600k
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Nvidia GTX 1060

These were some of the best working games on Citra as of December 2018:

Mario Kart 7

Mario Kart 7 looks simply amazing at a higher resolution and its performance has been improving drastically over the last months. It’s easy to say that Mario Kart is one of the best games on Citra.

Bravely Default

The game is not only completely playable but it works well with an improved resolution. Citra site lists this game as “Great” and for a reason, we didn’t find any slow downs or major glitches.

Super Mario 3D Land

This game is listed as a “Great” on the Citra but we did encounter some minor slowdowns which could be related to the older hardware we are running with. That said, the game play great graphically and it was perfectly stable. If you don’t mind some minor slow downs, keep this game in your must-play list.

Kirby Triple Deluxe

Kirby games are great platformers specially for young players. Kirby Triple Deluxe is one of the best Kirby games available for the 3DS and it runs great on the Citra emulator. We only encoutered a few spots were the audio would lag, but nothing that would affect the gameplay. Some of the graphical glitches we used to see back in 2017 builds of Citra are now gone.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Another Kirby game that runs great. Some users are reporting the game running “Perfect” on medium hardware and we can confirm that. Other than some very minor audio issues we encountered a few times, the game was perfectly playable and a great experience.

Senran Kagura Burst

Not everyone is into Senran Kagura games but if you are a fan of this hack and slash game we are glad to tell you that it works well in our test box. We did notice some slowdowns during video playing and at the start of levels, but after a second or two the game was running flawlessly. It also ran at a solid 60 FPS which means it’s not capped.

Mario Party: The Top 100

This game has seen a huge increase in support over the last few months. Reported as not working or just “Bad” at the start of the year to now “Perfect” by some users just in the 3 months, Mario Party: The Top 100 is now in the list of very playable titles. Oh and it’s really fun to play too.
